Calling all Gloucestershire Civil Engineering Firms!

C&G Services - The Skills Development Company

C&G Services have secured some funding to allow businesses involved in Civil Engineering within Gloucestershire to gain access to full funding and part funding for NVQ’s to take upskill staff from a red card to blue Operator Card.

Certain criteria needs to be met to gain access to the funding as follows:

Funding WIP

  • Does your company have less than 250 employees
  • Is the learner 19+?
  • Employed in Gloucestershire
  • Learner must be resident in England
  • Workers who came come to the UK with valid work permits are eligible for funding

If you meet all these requirements* then why not get in touch to see how we can help.

The funding we have is limited. As many retailers like to say – ‘When it’s gone it’s gone!’

(* some additional criteria may be required depending on each request for funding, when you enquire we’ll advise)

Do it right, Do it safely!

I read today in Construction News a report from the Health & Safety Executive about a serious working at height accident in Plymouth. It never ceases to worry me that every week there seems to be a report about this type of accident. When will it stop?

Working at height should be one of the most simplest of tasks to adhere to the basic safety requirements laid down by the Working at Height Regulations 2005, and yet week after week, there are these needless accidents.

In the case mentioned above, the current costs stand at £25,627 and that’s just the court fees. The correct edge protection, Personal Protection Equipment and training would have been insignificant to these cost’s.

And it’s not just the fines; the ongoing litigation, financial losses, the physical and psychological impact will ripple out to the victims family and the future of the business as well. It just isn’t worth it, please do the right thing by your business and personnel. Use the right equipment, wear the correct PPE and ensure all staff are properly trained!

Do it right, do it safely!

Street Works Update

NRSWA Update

The ACOP has been updated – are you ready for all the changes? The update includes the latest revision amended in June 2014. C&G Services has developed 2 methods of delivery to help explain the update clearly.

1. A half day classroom based interactive session which will give all those attending plenty of opportunity to practise scenarios based around the update, or

2. eLearning – a modular based on-line session with questions to test your knowledge at the end of each module.

So either via eLearning or classroom, we have a solution which will fit your needs. Ensure your teams are ready for the changes, call us on 01453 826781 or email us on info@gettrained.co.uk. Don’t forget, there is less than 3 months left before the update will be enforced, October 2014

Mission Accomplished!

The triumphant team returns having completed 31.7 miles around and through the Brecon Beacons (Sorry #TrekFest, James’s GPS was convinced that your 29 miles was wrong!) very sore everything but a seriously satisfying achievement! The weather was kind to us, thankfully, with large amounts of sun and a few showers. The team finished in a respectable position of 161st out of a field of 439 in a time of just under 12 hours, 114 people didn’t finish!! The chafing is almost repaired and most of us can almost walk normally.

The team have now raised over £600 for #cbituk and are justly proud of the achievement. The money will now go to provide the necessary support for families who have to deal with the potential lifelong impact of Child Brain Injury – thank you to all that have sponsored us, Jane and Bob Oldmeadow, #Andrew Tee @ The Child Brain Injury Trust for the t-shirts, Nicky Warren @ Impro Commercial for the additional t-shirt screen printing and all our families, friends and colleagues and clients for supporting & donating to us, we really appreciated it.

The Justgiving page will now remain open for a few more weeks so please, if you haven’t done already, or if you know someone that would donate, please pass on the details.

Would we do it again? Almost certainly (just need a load more training, speaking for myself of course!)

TrekFestIf you weren’t aware before, I’ll be reminding you all over the next couple of months as the small but intrepid band of C&G’ers get ready to trek across the Brecons covering 27 miles in just 12 hours, it’s going to be gruelling & knackering but above all satisfying and a great achievement as we aim to raise money for Charity at the same time.

A little bit about why we’re doing it:

Brain injury and in particular adopted brain injury affects so many children and their families and in many cases doesn’t necessarily surface until sometime after the event.

Last year, this affected my niece who has recently undergone brain surgery and although the situation is improved, she is still not out of the woods and will most likely be living with this for the rest of her life.

eLearning from C&G Services

To further compliment our existing training functions, we’re delighted to announce the launch of some select courses from C&G Services.

The number of courses and the types of accreditation available will grow over the next few months, but to wet your taste buds we have Asbestos Awareness available as our 1st eLearning course.

This modular course is based around 4 parts and can be completed in around 1 hour 10 minutes, the license will remain open for a period of 3 months to allow for flexible learning and completion.

Bespoke Courses

Moving on from ‘off the shelf courses’ –  we will of course be planning to extend the same level of bespoke client focussed training we offer within the classroom environment to our eLearning packages.

Some of the plans we’ll be working on in the coming months:

  • Client branded courses
  • Pre classroom competency checks – an essential, cost effective solution to         pre-check candidates BEFORE attending a classroom based course.

There are many more projects in the pipeline, so please keep your eye on the blog or website for future developments. In the meantime please free to contact me by email info@gettrained.co.uk if you want to discuss any specific project you have in mind or if you just want to learning more about eLearning from C&G Services (Europe) Ltd

Last year, this affected my niece who has recently undergone brain surgery and although the situation is improved, she is still not out of the woods and will most likely be living with this for the rest of her life.

Child Brain Injury affects not just the child but the family as well. Everybody has to readjust rapidly to the sudden impact this has on what was a normal/happy day to day life.

From the Child Brain Injury Trust website………….

“Every half an hour in the UK, a child or young person will acquire a brain injury. The Child Brain Injury Trust provides information, support and training to anyone affected by this devastating and life changing condition.”

So please give generously, the Trekfest we’re participating in will be 12 hours of endurance across the Brecons and even after the sore feet have healed, it will be over. For the kids going through brain injury, they will have this for a lifetime. Help us to give then some support!

Thank you for reading!

We’d all really appreciate your support in the endeavour and you can do this ever so easily by visiting our Just Giving team page and making a donation! There are all the usual methods available to make donating simple and easy. So please, give as much as you can! Click on the Just Giving button on our blog home page to donate.
