DVSA offer license holders quicker route to obtain 1st DQC card

IMG_7941

Since the acquired rights deadline has passed DVSA has received requests from members of the public, who wish to return to vocational driving, asking how they can obtain a DQC. DVSA has considered these requests in the context of the government’s desire to support driver recruitment and reduce the potential burden to the industry and has decided that they will now allow drivers with a full licence to gain their first DQC via either periodic training or completion of modules two and four. For further information visit the dedicated Gov website: Driver CPC for Lorry, Bus & Coach drivers

This provision will apply to a driver’s first DQC only – any subsequent renewal will require periodic training to be completed. DVSA envisages this will have very limited impact on approved trainers and anticipate as more drivers enter the industry the demand for Driver CPC periodic training will ultimately be increased.

We can of course offer a full range of courses from achieving all 35 hours in 1 week to providing individual courses as required – call us if you would like further information, 7 hour course available regularly – 01453 826781

Manual Handling

boxesManual Handling, whether it’s just lifting a box of paper in the office or a heavy more complicated two man lift, it’s essential your staff are trained.
We often take manual handling for granted until it’s too late. The consequences of which can be very serious, often resulting in lifelong, permanent injury.
With the introduction of FFI by the HSE back in 2012, failure by employers to ensure an appropriately trained workforce could leave a business liable to both extensive fines (currently £124 per hour) and being served a prohibition notice. The latter potentially adding to a loss in work, production and income.
Effective training by C&G Services can help prevent these issues. Through our direct consultation, we can offer either ‘off the shelf’ courses or design a course specific to your needs and the type of loads being lifted. We have delivered a range of bespoke Manual Handling courses to many industry sectors so through our experience clients will gain greater knowledge and the best trained staff.
We hold over 20 memberships and accreditations such as the National Skills Academy for Rail and Nuclear meaning that our training is respected amongst our peers and if that wasn’t enough, all our training is delivered to ISO 9001:2008 Quality Standards. Make the right choice today and gettrained by C&G Services!

C&G Services takes on Isaac Partnership for new marketing strategy

CI_KPInternational training provider C&G Services has recently engaged design and marketing agency The Isaac Partnership to take on their marketing strategy, including social media engagement and a new website.

C&G has recently moved their primary training facility from their current site in Stonehouse, to a newer location in Stroud. The move has allowed them to take on more work and secure larger training services contracts. They recently completed work in the Seychelles for Hunt Deltel & Co, carrying out specialist lifting training, and have a continuing relationship with Severn-Trent-Water, Magnox and multiple large Aerospace companies.

“For a while we’ve basically been bringing in new business through recommendations and direct enquiries” explains Kevin Parsons, Centre Manager for C&G, “We’ve grown the business at a respectable rate and did well through the recession, but we now need to capitalise on what we have achieved and move our Marketing strategy up to the next level. We can see only good things coming from this partnership.”

“We see this as a catalyst for strategic growth and the timing is great with our expansion into e-learning and additional business support services” continued Bob Oldmeadow, MD of C&G “We’ve had various initiatives in the past with varying levels of success, but now we are really excited to see what a professional agency like the Isaac Partnership will achieve for us”.

Chris Isaac, Creative Director of the Isaac Partnership spoke about taking on the training provider as a client. “It’s a great fit for us. We’ve worked with similar kinds of businesses before so we’re familiar with the target audience. This has come at a time when we’re taking on more staff and expanding so we’re really excited to see what we can do for C&G to make them an even more successful business than they already are”.

Suffolk building firm fined for exposing workers to asbestos fibres

Workers were potentially exposed to dangerous asbestos fibres and given only baby wipes and a cold water hose for decontamination.

LJW Cladding Ltd was working at a farm building in Waltham, Essex last year, where it removed asbestos insulation board without a licence. It also failed to protect its workers falling from heights of up to four metres.

Chelmsford magistrates heard the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) was alerted by a member of the public concerned that unsafe work was being undertaken at the farm building (pictured below).

HSE’s investigation found that LJW Cladding Ltd had no licence to remove asbestos, despite telling the farm owner it did. None of the workers were trained to work with licensed asbestos and were also placed in danger of falling from height while removing the fragile asbestos boards.

HSE found that the work, carried out between 26th and 28th February 2014, was totally lacking in safety measures. Asbestos insulating boards were broken from their fixings with inadequate attempts to prevent the uncontrolled release of fibres. There was no use of an enclosure and the respiratory protective equipment provided to workers offered insufficient protection.

Instead of a full three-stage decontamination unit required for such work, all the workers had were baby wipes and the farm’s cold water hose. Contaminated overalls over normal clothing continued to be worn while the workers ate their lunch on site.

The investigation also identified a lack of fall prevention or protection measures.
